The Forestburg Watermelon Patch is hiring for the July season.
The Forestburg Watermelon Patch is taking applications for four seasonal positions ahead of the July harvest. The openings are two field-side workers, one roadside stand operator, and one weekend delivery driver. All four positions run from the first week of July through late August.
The patch has operated on the same family land since 1987 and is one of the few remaining direct-sale watermelon operations in Montague County. Owner Dwight Hanna said the stand typically sells out by 1 p.m. on Saturdays in peak season. "We've never had a week where we didn't sell everything we cut," Hanna said.
Pay starts at $14.50 per hour for field work and $16.00 per hour for stand and driving positions. No prior agricultural experience is required — Hanna says most of his seasonal workers have been high school and college students. Applications are accepted in person at the patch on Saturday mornings in June between 8 a.m. and noon. The patch is located on FM 455, four miles west of Forestburg.
