PRCA-sanctioned rodeo at the Bowie fairgrounds. Events include bull riding, barrel racing, team roping, and mutton bustin'. Gates open at 5 p.m.; performance at 7 p.m.
Flat 5K on county roads through the Forestburg community. Registration $20 day-of at the community center. All ages welcome. Watermelon and lemonade at the finish.
Fourth of July celebration centered on the courthouse square. Bluegrass music from noon, pie contest at 3 p.m., and a fireworks display over the post-oak grove at dusk.
Two-day celebration of Nocona's boot-making heritage. Factory tours, leather craft workshops, a boot-design contest, and live music on the courthouse lawn both evenings.
Self-guided tour of nine studios and galleries on and around the courthouse square. Participating artists include painters, potters, fiber artists, and the square's resident muralist.
Monthly author talk series at the Bowie Public Library. August session features a local historian presenting new research on the 1882 railroad survey through Montague County.
Organized shoreline cleanup around Lake Nocona. Supplies and lunch provided. Organized by the Nocona Parks Board. Volunteers meet at the west-shore boat ramp at 8 a.m.
Small-town heritage day in Ringgold with local food, a historical marker dedication, and a guided walk to the Red River Station site. About 200 people typically attend.
The county fair at the Bowie fairgrounds. Livestock shows, produce competition, 4-H exhibits, carnival rides, and the fair queen coronation. Runs Thursday through Sunday.
Fall market day on the Saint Jo courthouse square. Antique dealers open extended hours, food trucks line the block, and the square hosts live acoustic music from noon to 5 p.m.
Annual juried art show presented by the Nocona Arts Guild. Paintings, sculpture, and mixed media from artists across north Texas. Reception Saturday evening. Free admission.
Regular public session of the Montague County Commissioners Court. Agenda posted 72 hours in advance at the county clerk's office and on the county website. Open to all residents.
Annual Veterans Day ceremony at the VFW post on US 287. Color guard presentation, remarks by the county judge, and a reception following the service. Open to the public.
Holiday market in downtown Nocona the weekend after Thanksgiving. Thirty-plus vendors with handmade gifts, food, and seasonal items. Free horse-drawn wagon rides Saturday afternoon.
