Site of the 1759 Battle of the Twin Villages, where a fortified Taovaya village repulsed a Spanish expedition under Diego Ortiz Parrilla. The Anglo town that grew up nearby in the 1870s was a Chisholm Trail supply stop for drovers crossing the Red River; a 1936 state historical marker and a cemetery remain.
